This lighter survived the Hindenburg inferno and is engraved with an outline of the Hindenburg inscribed "D-LZ 129 Hindenburg." Interestingly enough, the Hindenburg had a designated smoking room on board despite being filled with an estimated seven million cubic feet of highly flammable hydrogen gas. Passengers could purchase cigarettes and use lighters provided in the highly guarded room but could not leave the area.
