Hisn' by Nada Abu Shaqra is inspired by UAE vernacular architecture and contextual materials based on research into the dynamics of traditional forms and the space they create. What grabbed Nada's attention the most were the arch-like niches found in vernacular walls, used to reduce structural loads. Nada tried to emulate what it was like to inhabit such a space by making it into a chair. Intended to be interactive, it draws people in to take a seat through their response to motion and texture of its walls. Nada imagines this limited edition chair in residential or public spaces, wherever people need space to recharge. (Conceived and created during the Tanween design programme at Tashkeel)
