David Olusoga is the presenter of the BBC History series Black and British: A Forgotten History. He's shown here standing by the remains of Hadrian's Wall, a structure that stretched over 70 miles across northern England and acted as the boundary between Roman Britain and Scotland.
It was in the Roman period that the extraordinarly long relationship between the British Isles and the peoples whose origins are in Africa began.
The series is part of a wider Black and British season of programming on the BBC, November 2016, celebrating the achievements of black people in the UK and exploring the rich culture and history of black Britain.
