The entirety of the collections is the very history of a museum and of the research carried out by naturalists related to it, both locally and in far lands. The series originated from local naturalistic research are particularly important since they represent the physical evidence as well as the historical memory of a territory, and of its changes over time. The scientific heritage of the Museum of Natural History of Venice consists of over two million finds; to its original core, made of the ancient collections from the Correr Museum and the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, like the dry collection of Dalmatian crustaceans shown here, many other collections were added later on, through donations, deposits and direct collecting.
