Essen, Germany

The sword was made at the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. Its handle is made of bronze, its blade of iron. They were forged together from several pieces that had been carburised in different ways. This extremely high-quality workmanship improved the weapon’s properties considerably and is comparable to the later Damascus steel.
