It worked as a hideaway for venom. It has a woodcut engraving on the back cover depicting a human skeleton, from the book of Andreas Vesalius, De Humani Corporis Fabrica (Of the Structure of the Human Body), Basel, 1543. Latin inscription «STATUT UM EST HOMINIBUS SEMEI MORI» on the glass jar. (It is established that men only die once).
Eleven drawers covered with colorful paper and Latin inscriptions with names of various venomous plants, such as HYOSCYAMUS - NIGER (Henbane), PAPAVER SOMNIF. (Mimosa Pudica), ACONITUM NAPELLUS (Aconitum), CICUTA VIROSA (Cicuta), BRYONIA.ALBA (Bryonia), DATURA. STRAM (Jimsonweed), VALERIANA OFF. (Valerian), DAPHNE MERZEREUM (February Daphne), COLCHICUM. AUTUMNALE (Crocus).
