In the 1950s and 1960s magazines like Popular Mechanics carried plans for hollow timber paddleboards. The idea was that home handy men would built these craft in their garage. Not really intended for surfing these boards are normally found with a paddle (a piece of dowel or broom handle with plywood paddles attached). They could be paddled on rivers, lakes, dams and protected beaches. A few brave souls did take boards like this out into the surf, but the flat bouyant hard edged nature of these craft makes them very difficult to surf. This board features Buzz 1 hand lettered on the side of the board and also a Ford Super Dooper Roo sticker (from about 1970).
