Illumination ordered by Ruy Gómez de Silva, minister of King Philip II, for the Emperor Charles V.
Then the work was given to Philip II, who in turn gave it to the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where it was put away in the Lady Chapel of relics or of Santa Teresa, until it was removed by French troops in 1808.
The beautiful painting shows the quality of the works by Clovio, one of the best Renaissance illuminators.
