  • Further Information: The calling of the child Samuel is described in I Samuel III, 2-10. According to Waterhouse DPG223 is a studio replica of the original at Knole of c.1776. The picture seems to have remained in the painter's possession and was purchased by Bourgeois at the Reynolds studio sale of 1796.
