"Mallorca became a special place in the life of Santiago Rusiñol (Barcelona, 1861 - Aranjuez, 1931), it was closely linked to his personality, pictorial and literary work.

This work represents an urban landscape seen from a high vantage point where the grey town rooftops occupy most of the canvas space. In the middle of the composition we can see a street where an entourage of people walks out of the church of Pollença with candles in their hands. This detail helps him to humanize the painting, to which he adds grey smoke coming out of the chimneys.

The dramatic quality of this painting is enhanced by a sky filled with bright horizontal clouds that reminds us of El Greco. The detail of the sky can be compared to the one in the painting Maria Magdalena, which can be seen in the Great Hall."
