During the period 1976-77, Bucks County, Pennsylvania woodworker David Ellsworth began producing hollow-turned vessels that broadened the definition of wood turning from a means of making functional objects to that of making fragile, impressive objects for display. He believes that his creations express the spirit and pulse of his raw materials. Ellsworth’s works showcase the appreciation for the natural beauty of wood as well as the functionality of the vessel itself. His thin-walled vessels, measuring as thin as 1/16 inch thick, are extraordinary technical achievements. This Homage Pot, dating to 2010, was made from sugar maple from the artist's own property in Bucks County. David is the founding member of the American Association of Woodturners, of which he was president from 1986-1991.
