Two thousand sixteen was the year of many anniversaries in the theatre world in Quebec. MU decided to seize the opportunity to create two new murals that would pay tribute respectively to the founders of the Théâtre de Quat’Sous, which celebrates its 60 years of existence, and to Janine Sutto, who turned 95 years old this year.

Artist Gene Pendon was chosen to honour Yvon Deschamps, Paul Buissonneau, Louise Latraverse, Claude Léveillée and Jean-Louis Millette, the five founder members of the Théâtre de Quat’Sous. The diptych mural celebrates the history of the theater, one of the oldest and the most important in Montreal.

The mural is part of the Montreal’s Great Artists collection, which highlights the creative minds and forces who have made outstanding contributions to the local, national and international reach of Montreal’s cultural scene. The murals pay tribute to creators in a variety of artistic disciplines who are either from the city originally, or who have made it their home.
