Hommage à la Petite-Bourgogne

Hydro-Quebec asked MU to produce a large-scale mural on the protective walls that surrounds the Guy substation, located on St-Jacques Street in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest. The mural is a tribute to Little Burgundy, the neighbourhood where it is located. It has a purpose of embellishing and revitalizing the area, as well as preventing graffiti and vandalism.

The artist chosen for this project is urban art specialist Roadsworth, a Montreal-based artist originally from Toronto. The mural he created shares different aspects of Little Burgundy’s social and cultural history. Several key elements are evoked, such as the neighbourhood’s strong connection with the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Steel Company of Canada. Also reflected on the mural is Little Burgundy’s cultural and creative importance, as it was the home of many jazz artists and the most important neighbourhood for jazz music in North America.
