Hot-air locomotive

Around 1900, the Ernst Plank Company of Nuremberg, Germany patented an unusual hot air engine, which used the expansion of heated air to drive a small piston. This toy locomotive is the only train model known to have incorporated the firm’s unique method of motive power. Collected by Jerry Greene’s father in Brooklyn during the 1950s, it is one of the earliest additions to the Jerni Collection.
