In the early twentieth century, hotel operators everywhere began to design suitcase stickers and have them printed, thereby advertising their accommodations on the luggage of their globetrotting customers. At the same time, a suitcase covered in stickers acted as a showpiece for its owner, who now came across as worldly and sophisticated. After reaching a high point in the 1920s and 30s, suitcase stickers fell out of fashion in the 1950s.
