The Baron of Mauá's house was built between April 1852 and March 1854, used by him as a summer residence. Designed by the engineer Otto Reimarus and entitled "residence of Mauá", the only one that had it built, despite having other real estate. In this period came to Petrópolis to accompany the construction of the first railway of Brazil.
