This painting represents the painter’s childhood and youth house, in Barqueiros, next to to River Douro. A green hill develops above the roof, reducing the space of the summer blue sky.
The vegetation, of yellowish tones, is invaded by small red flowers. Oases of greenery mask some details of the house. In the background another house that may correspond to an annex.
António Ramalho belonged to the naturalist generation and was essentially known as a portraitist, although it was as decorator that he succeed, especially with the decorations of the Palácio do Porto and of the Palace Hotel do Buçaco.
