This is the head of a male haniwa with hair on both sides of his head in the mizura style. Part of the head is raised above the other with a horizontal line dividing the top from the bottom; this is thought to depict a rounded cap atop the head. There are small, carved, narrow eyes and a small nose on the nearly spherical face, giving the impression of a child. There are redder portions of the face and neck, but these are thought to represent a type of cosmetics rather than tattoos.

  • Object Notes(Japanese): 鬢を美豆良(みずら)に結った男性埴輪の頭部です。頭の部分が一段高くなり、下辺が水平なことから、これは丸帽子を表現したものと考えられます。真円形に近い丸顔に、小さく細い目を切り抜き、低い鼻を貼り付けており、童顔の印象を受けます。顔と首を赤彩していますが、これは入れ墨ではなく、一種の化粧を表したものでしょう。
