Museum of the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds
Saitama prefecture , Japan

This haniwa is a male figure playing a four-string harp resting on his knees. He is wearing a serrated, mountain-shaped crown with decorative trim, and his face is painted red. His hair is tied and hangs down on the left and the right sides of his face in the sage-mizura style, and the hair ties are depicted by red paint. He has a thick belt around his waist from which two swords hang. The larger sword has a pattern of arrow feathers on its hilt, and a much smaller sword hands in front of the larger one. This haniwa was excavated from the Funayama Kofun area in the then-Kawamoto Town, which is now a part of Fukaya City.
