According to tradition, the attire was made for Maria Theresa’s firstborn son, Joseph. Many paintings and carvings show the children of the Queen in Hungarian attire. The choice of clothes and the circulation of such pictures was probably aimed to gain the approval of Hungarian lords, and to make them accept the heir to the throne as the Hungarian monarch.
