The splendid gilded chalice from the 18th century is decorated with many sculptural motifs from nature. It portrays a thrilling deer chase and the elegant coat of arms and initials of Crown Prince Frederick August II of Saxony. The prized hunting chalice not only reflects its owner’s passion for wild game hunting but also the pride in the rank of prince, whose privileges included hunting. With its exceptional execution, the chalice, which was made in Dresden, demonstrates the quality of goldsmithery even outside its centres of Nuremberg and Augsburg.
