On Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection (ASTER) instrument onboard NASA's Terra spacecraft acquired this image swath over Hurricane Florence as the storm headed for the Eastern seaboard and the Carolinas. The image is a long strip of six individual ASTER scenes, taken in the visible wavelength region. The background is the simultaneously acquired MODIS visible image. The ASTER swath covers an area of 37 by 244 miles (60 by 360 kilometers) acquired at 11:48 am EDT, and is centered at 32.9 degrees north, 76.4 degrees west.
