The traditions and customs of the Hutsuls, Ruthenian highlanders living in the Eastern Carpathians, dominated part of the work of Kazimierz Sichulski. The artists of Young Poland considered them primitive people, unspoiled by civilization, admired their picturesqueness. In their paintings, the Hutsuls are a people full of vitality and color.
