At the end of the Edo Period (1603-1867), these baskets were given to guests visiting Dake Onsen (hot springs) at the foot of Mt.Iwaki. “Akebi” is a wild vine found in abundance in the surrounding mountainous areas, and is used for charcoal baskets or handbags.
After the Meiji Era (1867-1911), exhibits were held domestically and abroad, allowing the market to expand internationally.
