Hybrid maize

Most maize plants in Europe and the USA today are high-producing hybrids with large ears. The fruitful hybrid maize is the result of crossing two inbred varieties which have been self-pollinated for generations.The hybrids do not reproduce well, however; farmers have to buy seeds for planting every year.
