The historical structure Gosha Mahal Hauz which occupies an extensive area is the highlight of the map. The Gosha Mahal Hauz street and Chaknawari lane run in a long row can be seen to the left side of Gosha Mahal Hauz. The Gosha Mahal Hauz was originally a palace built by the Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah in 1627 A.D, but it was completed by Abul Hasan Tana Shah. At the time of its erection, the structure consisted of 1000 halls. Interestingly, the palace was actually used as a resort for the royal ladies, hence, it is said that the name of Gosha (secluded) was given to the building. But, nothing survives today except the guest house called Baradari and a housing lodge which Nizam was given to the Freemasons. It was during the last siege of Golconda Fort by Aurangzeb, the palace destroyed almost and even Prince Shah Alam had been encamped at Gosha Mahal. Moreover, it is said that there had a subterranean passage even connected to the Golconda.
South of Gosha Mahal Hauz, a thickly inhabited area can be seen covering both sides of Ist Infantry lane, where the garden belongs to Raja Ram Chandra Narayan and parade ground are visible on the map. 1st Infantry was part of the major contingent, comes under the regular troops of Nizam among those stationed at Hyderabad. Many temples and adjacent to it Mats are also visible. Here, mat denotes the monastery, corrupt form of Math/ Matha, a tradition in Hinduism traceable back to the Vedic period. These mats were mainly functioned as the study center, not only on various Hindu philosophies but other subjects also. The mat will host and feed students, and often these monasteries are attached to temples. So, here on the map, the mat of different people along with temples are identifiable. These temples are dedicated and worshiped to different deities.
