The area covered on the map much of unoccupied in nature, only Panja Gutta Road, which is heading forward by crossing the area is visible on the map. Today, Panja Gutta (Panjagutta) is a very busy commercial area. According to the local tradition, the place got the name from a rocky formation nearby it, is known as Panjagutta Pahad (hill). There were impressions of palm (panja) and ghutna (knee) engraved on one rock, from which the surrounding areas came to be called as Panja Gutta over a period of time. It is believed that these impressions are of Hazrat Ali, the Imam of Shiites.
