The area lying to the north of Upal main road, which is uninhabited and marked as Makta Kishtnamurti, Makta Mohan Singh, and Makta Babu Nand Lal, seems part of the Makta land is visible on the map. Upal is the suburb located on the Hyderabad-Warangal national highway as well as, northern banks of Musi river. Upal was a traditional village society, but now it is a transitional society possessing the characteristic of both urban as well as rural. There was a system of land tenure in the Telangana region, under which the govt land varying in size, either from small holdings to a whole village or group of villages, were given on a fixed rent to bring the new lands under the cultivation. The holder was known as Maktadars, were locally powerful landlords. So, such land obviously was called as Makta land and in due course, came into existence that calling any area part of Makta land with holder name.
