Mathieu Tremblin is best known for his urban interventions that recontextualise traditional graffiti marks into a distinctly contemporary, digital language. The artist is best known for his "Tag Cloud" project, where he translated scrawled graffiti into legible typography. The project entailed first painting over the original tags before repainting each signature in precise, sans-serif lettering while maintaining their original position on the wall. For his contribution to Nuart, the French artist chose to work alongside local writer El Mado, transforming several tags into a painted "hyperlink" — referencing the default look of hyperlinks in a common web browser.
The artist is inspired by anonymous, autonomous and spontaneous practices and expressions in urban space and implements playful and straightforward actions to question the systems of legislation, representation and symbolisation prevalent in everyday city life.
Tremblin has been part of the duo Les Frères Ripoulain with David Renault since 2006.
