A stylised figural composition – an authentic form of portrait. Anthropomorphic-zoomorphic motif is done in raw coloured surfaces; the head includes zoomorphic motifs in the form of fish, the body is coloured black, while the hands are identified by white tone. Expressive and distorted figures in Barbarien’s paintings point to human faults, and fights between the good and the evil. The metaphor of human weakness is expressed in presentations of animals which, like in fables, reveal the identity of human characters. This contour of his soul in the claws of absurd was created in pain, instantly and expressively. He embodied all his conflicts in united forces which emerged from the abyss of wandering souls. With his infantile lust for power over his surroundings, Barbarian got rid of the feeling of inferiority in the very creative act. Only then he domineered and achieved intellectual balance. Thanks to characteristic pictorial language of expressive and raw artistic articulation he introduced a wealth of inventiveness in art brut, i.e. outsider art in Serbia (N. Krstić).
