I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag

Flags played an important role in Frederic's artistic development. Fred's father Ted greatly enjoyed the flags that young Fred would draw and would ask him to draw them for their guests. Using crayons, Fred would copy them from the color pictures that came with a packet of Sweet Corporal Cigarettes. On the merit of these pictures Fred's father considered his son a 'born artist'.
