Image of two pages from Dorothy's letter to Jane Marshall. Dated Friday 16 March 1804 (though editor Ernest de Selincourt gives the correct date as 15 March 1805). Addressed to Mrs. John Marshall of Leeds, Yorkshire. On the pages shown, Dorothy describes her younger brother John's love of Dove Cottage and the garden. Captain John Wordsworth had recently died in the wreck of the East India ship the Earl of Abergavenny, 5 February 1805. And in this letter to her friend, Dorothy describes her grief and love for her departed brother.
