Candido Portinari, Washington, D.C. [inglês] [datilografado]
My dear Sr. Portinari:
It gives me great pleasure to transmit to you the enclosed check for $4,000.
This grant has been made available to the Library of Congress by the Committee for Inter-
American Artistic and Intellectual Relations of New York City. (The Committee consists of Dr. Frederick P. Keppel of the Carnegie Corporation, Dr. Henry Allen Moe of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and Dr. David H. Stevens of the Rockefeller Foundation.) It is the hope of the Committee that this grant, matching as it does the generous grant made by your own government, will serve not only as a recognition of your own work but will meet also your living expenses and the expenses you may incur for materials in executing the murals.
In transmitting this check to you I need hardly say how warmly I appreciate the undertaking which occasions it, and with what lively expectations I look forward to its completion.
Very sincerely yours,
Archibald MacLeish
The Librarian of Congress
