February 2015 Leaves Its Mark on the Eastern U.S.

Freezing rain is in the forecast from Texas to the mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Carolinas with temperatures 20-40 degrees below normal across parts of the central and southern U.S. on Friday, extending February's icy grip on the eastern half of the U.S. This image from the Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument shows the snow cover left by February's series of east coast storms, taken around 1830Z on February 27, 2015.
