Ibeji (Twin)

Yoruba women have high incidents of multiple births. These special children are thought to share one soul. If one of them dies at birth, an effigy is carved for the dead child, carried by the mother and 'fed' the same as the living child. Elaborate costume of shells may adorn a pair of twins.
