Iberian Capitel

-500/-200

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo
Linares (Jaén), Spain

Capitel made of sandstone, with iconography that could be related to the Astarte-Tanit Iberian divinity or a deity associated with it. The lotus flower and rosettes are associated with the symbolism of this ruling goddess of life, death and nature. With this relationship as a goddess of death and as giver goddess of life his presence would be necessary in the graves as guarantor of the resurrection of the dead in the afterlife in the Iberian society divinity, so that it could be a capitel associated with a funerary monument of an important Iberian personage of Cástulo or part of a temple of the goddess.
