Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus)

The Iberian lynx is the most endangered of the feline species in the world and the most emblematic of Spanish fauna. The specimens exhibited in the MNCN were hunted in 1915 in Almuradiel (Ciudad Real). By then they were considered vermins so they were not attractive as hunting preys. The mounting of the Benedito brothers allowed to expose this beautiful species to the public. In the Museum there is a Bank of Germplasm and Tissues with genetic material from Iberian endangered species such as the Iberian lynx, which uses the latest advances in reproductive biotechnology to preserve the genetic diversity of these species.
