Idakka is a percussion instrument from Kerala, shaped like an hour-glass with two headed drum, hung from the left shoulder. Striking the right side with a stick, the left is used for varying the tension of the parchment by adjusting the cotton cord wound round the waist of the drum. Considered to be a Deva vadyam or divine instrument, it is customarily played during the temple rituals or as the accompaniment to the Sopana music.
