This text piece was created in a live BALTIC Foundation Club session by Beck, Betsy, Eilidh, Kika and Theresa with artists Zoe Murtagh, Laura Stutter Garcia and BALTIC's learning team.
Zoe led us on a warm-up exercise, asking us each to finish the sentence 'If I was PM for a day, the first thing I would do is...' - we each shared an answer before passing on the next person, passing the sentence around the group a number of times until we had a collection of actions. We also shared, in the same way, our unfiltered thoughts on what there will be in the future. We were inspired by Manifesto and free-writing techniques, and some group members discussed a colour theme, creating a design brief to make the text visual. When presented together, we start to see connections and contrasts between the two lists.
This piece was made at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art as part of Arts Council England's The Way I See It project which captures the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the lives of children and young people, articulated in their own voices, through their own creativity.
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead creates and produce exhibitions, events and learning opportunities that explore the role of art and artists, and the world around us.
