In the painting known as Il vittmaro the emotional participation in the drama that is about to take place is strong and intense. The distressed and terrified young Christian is dragged ruthlessly to his death by his brutal executioner. The young Roman strong and shapely muscular figure expresses here an unvoiced arrogance which extenuates the cruelty of the act. From 1860 onwards renewed attention was paid to themes of Christian mortodem in art circles. Sicuti treats these themes with pronounced descriptive realism dwelling on the different streaking and in the fortuitist variations of marble. Il vittimaro comes from the collections of Edward Dalphano and was donated in 1907.
