An illuminated manuscript celebrating the eightieth birthday in 1916 of Sir Edward Partington (1836-1925), Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Derbyshire, Justice of the Peace, and Freeman of the Borough of Glossop. Presented to him by Olive and Partington Paper Mills.
Edward Partington, 1st Baron Doverdale, was an English industrialist, born in Bury, Greater Manchester. He moved to Glossop, Derbyshire, in 1874. With his partner William Olive, Partington bought the Turn Lee Mill in Glossop to try out a modern method of paper manufacture using the sulfite process.
