Extracted in a similar way as paper, nori (a kind of sea vegitables) started being processed in Shinagawa from the Tenmei era (1781-89) onwards. Since it was generally transported and sold at Asakusa, it came to be called Asakusa nori, except for when it was sold in Shinagawa, then it would be referred to as Shinagawa nori. In this image, a scene of collecting nori on the shore of Shinagawa has been depicted.
