Martin Lister was an early Fellow of the Royal Society, a physician now most renowned for his work as a naturalist. This plate from his volume IV of his book on shells, Historiae Conchyliorum, published in 1685 was drawn by his daughters Susanna and Anna Lister. It is thought that they were 13 and 15 when the production of the book began, making their accuracy and artistic abilities even more extraordinary.
