This treble lute is believed to be the earliest surviving "all-ivory" lute. Its body, neck, and pegbox are made of ivory and/or are covered with ivory veneer. The soundboard is made of fir. A geometric rose (soundhole) based on a pattern of interlocking squares is set into the belly.
