A view of the back of the snapping turtle rattle shows the small mammal vertebrae attached to the exterior of the shell. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Nation in which this type of rattle is traditionally used, includes a confederacy of six nations: Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, Tuscaroroa, Mohawk, and Cayuga.
