Detail view of the recorder's key mechanism hidden beneath the perforated wood fontanelle (sleeve). This bass recorder has one brass key with a swallowtail touchpiece and a flat, round key cover. A leather pad is sewn to the key cover. A heavy brass spring, attached to the wood, overlaps the key.
