This trumpet is ornamented in typical Haas style, featuring cast angel heads, fluted ferrules, and a ball with cast figures. The engraved floral ornaments on the garland--a tulip and a pomegranate--are also typical. The pattern of the decoratively embossed wire that surrounds the rim of the garland and the ferrules is frequently found on Haas instruments. It is not known to what extent such garnishes were made in the maker's workshop or partially supplied by other members of the many metal-working trades active in Nuremberg. The decorative wires were most likely bought from wire drawers. This was a large trade, specializing in all kinds of wire for uses as widespread as mouse traps, spectacle frames, and harpsichords.
