Bimba Landmann has been creating picture books since 1995. The work A boy named Giotto (1998) presents the life of Giotto, from his early days as a shepherd boy until he becomes a renowned painter of the Italian Renaissance. The book has been translated into multiple languages and published in many countries, including Japan, where it won the Japan Translation Award in 2000. Each page of this picture book presents a reconstructed simulation of a triptych altar painting from the middle ages. Using traditional tempera painting techniques, the surface of each illustration glows with a golden hue.
