A Gond painting by Jangarh Singh Shyam depicting an antelope.
Gond painting originated in the Gond regions of Madhya Pradesh. Traditionally the paintings were drawn on interior walls in the village houses by Pardhan community. The paintings depict an array of characters associated with the Pardhan oral traditions.
Jangarh Singh Shyam (1962-2001) was an artist from Madhyapradesh. He popularized the Gond painting tradition.He had been working at the graphic workshop at Roopankar along with tribal and modern urban artists.
