The Imilac meteorite, a stony-iron type meteorite know as a Pallasite. Pallasites consist of olivin crystals (a type of mineral) embedded within an iron-nickel matrix. Pallasites are a rare type of meteorite an only 61 are known to exist to date. This specimen was found in Chile. Pallasites are thought to have orginiated in the core-mantle boundary of ancient asteroids that were destroyed through violent impacts during the formation of the early solar system.
